Update: After less than 24 hours since this post, Apple has removed the DiscoRecorder tethering app from the App Store. The developer forwarded along an automated email that he received. He received no specific explanation from Apple. Since the App Store’s launch, a few developers have tried creative tactics to enable free and unlimited tethering for iPhone users. Most of these tricks either made their way onto the App Store due to an apparently accidental app acceptance by Apple, or by way of a creativity....

At the heart of the problem is telcos interpreting record keeping rules over coverage in different ways. Optus and TPG mostly do it with predicted outdoor coverage on a standard handset, while Telstra predicts coverage based on having an external antenna. The telcos need to use prediction because objects such as buildings, walls, and fallen trees, can get between the user and the tower, lowering the signal received. Each telco also has differing inputs and assumptions in its prediction....

Adobe continues to make its collection of apps optimized for Apple Silicon processors. The company announced today that its Audition application for audio production now runs natively on Apple’s M1 processors. Adobe says that Audition on an M1 Mac offers a variety of performance improvements. Adobe explains: There are, however, a few limitations to running Adobe Audition on M1 Macs. The company explains that Audition on M1 does not currently support EUCON control surfaces or CEP extension panels....

Adobe just revealed (via The Verge) pricing information and more details on its new cloud-based offering called Creative Cloud. Announced last October along new touch apps for tablets, Creative Cloud is billed as a service that “radically redefines the content creation process” by offering a central web-based repository to store, share and view content across devices. Prices start at $49.99 a month, which buys you a one-year access to 20GB of cloud storage shared across the upcoming Creative Suite 6 apps....

It’s been two years since Adobe shook the photography world with Lightroom CC, a cloud-based take on its Lightroom photo editor. The decision to rebuild the app from the ground up with new workflows, new library management ideas, and — in many areas — fewer features, was a polarizing announcement. To help ease the transition, Adobe has continued to maintain and update Lightroom Classic with new features and fixes. Supporting both apps is a service to customers who rely on existing workflows and local file management, but adds complexity to the Lightroom ecosystem....

Microsoft has been working on a totally redesigned version of Outlook for Mac since last fall and the public release of the big update is slated for mid-October. The new Outlook for Mac is designed to look and work great with macOS Big Sur, includes speed improvements, new UI, tools, improved customization, and more. From 9to5Google: Google posted an Update from the CEO on its Official Google Blog today where Larry Page announced that Android chief Andy Rubin will officially be leaving the Android team to take up a new role at the company. Rovio has released a big update today to its original Angry Birds app, which happens to remain as the #1 app of all time. Today’s update brings a brand new gameplay mode known as “Egg Defender,” which according to iTunes gives “Red special powers to attack the advancing pigs.” Also included in today’s update is 15 new levels with all-new challenges, as well as “73 crazy pig contraptions” straight from Rovio’s hit spin off title ‘Bad Piggies’....

Apple has denied this, stating that while it wanted the agency model for its own store, it was “indifferent” – a word it has used on the stand twice – to the arrangements publishers had with other retailers. The DOJ has now entered into evidence Exhibit 55, an email from Steve Jobs to Eddy Cue which appears to directly contradict this claim … Apple claims the email was never sent, but Keith Moerer, head of Apple’s iBookstore, was forced to agree that the email was not consistent with its claimed indifference....
