Apple CEO Steve Jobs has announced a new period of medical leave from Apple. Reaction to his news has already begun, with Apple shares traded on the Frankfurt exchange falling by 7.5 percent by 14:38 GMT. US futures also seem destined for a hit, with 0.3 percent falling off of the S&P 500 and 0.9 percent down on the Nasdaq. Meanwhile speculation as to Apple’s succession plans is inevitably set to increase, particularly in light of a board recommendation shareholders reject a plan to formalise such preparations that is being advanced at the AAPL AGM in February....

Adobe revealed a major update to its popular photo editing tool, Lightroom CC, today with a brand new interface, workflow, and sharp focus on cloud-based editing. The new photography service, previously known as Project Nimbus, coincides with a series of new Creative Cloud photography plans tailored for new and increasingly mobile workflows. The new Lightroom CC begins with a refreshed interface. Adobe says the new tools are more streamlined and easier to use....

Adventure Time premiered on Cartoon Network in 2010, subsequently becoming one of the network’s most popular shows and earning eight Primetime Emmy Awards. Following the hack on a small number of Apple corporate Macs, Apple has released a Java security patch to end users. The update is available in the Software Update pane under the Mac App Store application. It is also available for direct download from Apple’s website. Apple also provides a document on the security information related to the update. On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in....

Aladdin is Disney’s next big blockbuster this summer, and it certainly has the budget of a studio tentpole. Another prologue video has been released for Alien: Covenant, connecting directly to the conclusion of Prometheus. In Covenant, the crew of a colony ship finds what they believe to be a pristine planet upon which they can establish a new home-world for humanity. They soon find out that the planet already has several interesting inhabitants, including the android David, who was last seen at the end of Prometheus leaving LV-223 with Elizabeth Shaw, in search of the Engineers’ planet....

In 2017, director Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame teased some concept art and ideas for a proposed Alien 5 which ended up being canceled, but there were interesting story ideas proposed that are worth exploring. The Alien franchise, while relatively slim in entries, has had its ups and downs along with periods of inactivity. Ridley Scott’s Alien is considered one of the greatest sci-fi/horror movies ever made, with James Cameron’s Aliens also getting a lot of praise despite taking the series in a more action-oriented direction....

Now that it’s been in theaters for a couple of weeks, Alita: Battle Angel looks like it will prove the doubters wrong and become a sizable box office hit. Live-action manga adaptations haven’t had much success critically or commercially over the years, with 2017’s Ghost in the Shell being a recent example. The latest analyst report from Wedbush’s Dan Ives gives the firm’s insight into Apple’s upcoming product roadmap. Like a lot of rumors, Ives expects Apple to replace the 16-inch MacBook Pro with an Apple Silicon model and a chassis redesign incorporating dedicated IO ports. Echoing Bloomberg’s reporting, he expects iOS 15 to include new notifications features, more privacy awareness and perhaps updates to iMessage. The WWDC press images certainly suggest an iMessage connection....
