This October sees the arrival of Halloween Kills, the first of two announced sequels to 2018’s successful Halloween reboot, which was the first new Halloween movie in nearly a decade. A few weeks ago, I was having some issues where I couldn’t get my VPN to work on my laptop. I was running the beta of macOS Catalina, so I decided to fix the problem by just reformatting and setting up my laptop from scratch. Thanks to iCloud and the Mac App Store, doing a new install of macOS is pretty easy time-wise. It did fix the problem, but as I was changing my Safari Start Page back to DuckDuckGo, I had a thought....

A Quiet Place was one of the biggest cinematic hits of 2018, and it was definitely a well-done film. Part of what makes a movie great is whether or not it includes lots of interesting hidden details that add a lot to the story, and this film has a lot of them. Video game streaming services have been a huge deal in the industry for a while now, with users playing on PlayStation Now, Google Stadia, and now Nvidia’s GeForce Now. This week though users of GeForce Now were shocked to find out that all of Activision Blizzard’s games were removed from the platform. GeForce Now has already been outperforming Google’s Stadia, as the platform supports more games and uses better hardware....

Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, left Activision Blizzard recently during its massive corporate shake-up. As Activision’s business decisions run the risk of being aired in public as part of the aftermath of all these lawsuits, it’s now emerged that Activision rejected original IP from Schofield - potentially one of their most profitable devs - prior to his departure. Schofield announced his departure from Activision Blizzard on Twitter in December last year to take some time off from the industry and to try something new....

Adobe is out with an update to its Photoshop Express photo editing app for iPhone and iPad today. The latest release of Photoshop Express for iOS, version 3.5, adds integration with the WhatsApp Messenger app for sharing edited photos directly to the chat service. The update also includes the usual bug fixes including some for issues for iOS 8 users specifically. Adobe is also giving Photoshop Express users access to some premium features within the app for free....

First there was Lightroom. Today we have Photoshop. Now, Adobe’s next iPad app with desktop-class ambitions is Illustrator, previewed today at Adobe MAX 2019. The app is still in early stages of development, with an initial release targeted for sometime in 2020. Like Photoshop on iPad, Adobe says it is reimagining Illustrator from the ground up for a touch-first experience. That includes considering the unique capabilities of the Apple Pencil, which will be a key tool for illustrators in need of precision....

Wired just published aerial shots of Apple’s data center in Maiden, N.C. from Monday, when construction crews were in the midst of laying foundation for a large structure in a northwest sylvan area, and it appears the company has just begun assembling its Bloom Energy fuel cells for biogas conversion. Bonjour allows networking hardware to automatically configure (zero-configuration), while Bonjour Gateway (PDF) essentially adds support for iPad and iPhone users to employ components like AirPrint for wireless printing wherever an AirPrint-capable printer is accessible. The feature intends to aid the growing trend of users who bring their iOS devices into work....

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 premieres May 2019 on ABC, as confirmed by a new Valentine’s Day promo featuring the main characters. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. initially premiered back in 2013 as the first TV spinoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ostensibly an offshoot of 2012’s The Avengers, the series followed Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) after being resurrected following his death at the hands of Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Coulson assembled a team of agents who grew to include May (Ming-Na Wen), Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), Fitz (Iain de Caestecker), Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), Mack (Henry Simmons), Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) and Deke (Jeff Ward)....

A new market intelligence report has an interesting mix of news for Apple today. On the plus side, the Apple Watch continues to dominate the market, with a 41% market share – almost twice the share of second-placed Fitbit, at 21%. And the smartwatch market as a whole grew 37% year-on-year last quarter. But there were two pieces of bad news also … First, says Counterpoint Research, Apple’s share shrank last quarter, from 48% in Q2 2017 to 41% in the same quarter this year....

Sonos has an announcement coming on October 4th, where the company is expected to unveil its first smart speaker. At this point Alexa voice support is most likely, although Sonos states on an Instagram post that it is “actively working” on AirPlay 2 thanks to performance improvements. Apple announced AirPlay 2 with multi-room support and control from the Home app at WWDC, along with some new social feature for Apple Music and the MusicKit API....

Apple’s rumored HDTV might be called the iTV, according to a new report from Bloomberg citing Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek. In a note to clients this morning, Misek also claimed Apple might buy licenses for programming through possible partnerships with Verizon and AT&T and could “leverage content into a YouTube-like model” by taking advantage of user created video from iPhone and iPad users. He also noted “Lower margins and higher risks” will most likely keep Apple away from creating original programming....

Apple stock has hit an all time high today as shares of AAPL reached above the previous $160 per share record it set earlier this month during after hours trading. The increase in Apple’s stock price puts the company’s market cap at 832.192B today, an increase from the $800 billion milestone that it first crossed back in May of this year. At the time, some analysts increased price targets to as high as $202 for AAPL ahead of the expected iPhone 8 launch in September....
