The production team set out 10 iPads in airports known to have thefts, and nine of the tablets were eventually reported as lost. It gets worse. The TSA officer blamed the situation on his wife: After waiting 15 days, ABC News went to the home and asked Ramirez to return the iPad....

It’s just ten days since I pointed to a Microsoft security leak as proof of my point that any iPhone master key created by Apple would inevitably fall into the wrong hands in time – and even more powerful support for that position now exists. It was revealed last week that powerful hacking tools created by the NSA have been leaked, and are now being auctioned to the highest bidder. LG today has taken the wraps off of a pair of new 21:9 monitors that it will show off at the IFA conference in Berlin this week. Both of the displays offer the UltraWide technology that LG has become known for over the years, while one also features USB-C support. Daniel Brühl will produce and star in a remake of the 1930 best picture Oscar winner All Quiet on the Western Front. The original film was based on a 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German World War I veteran. The book is widely regarded as the definitive anti-war statement and explores WWI through the eyes of German soldiers. The story follows Paul Baumer, a German student inspired to join the military by his patriotic teacher, and a group of his friends as they witness, first-hand, the horrifying realities of war....

The Final Destination horror movie franchise proved death has a design, but not all such designs are created equal in the entertainment department. Last week, YouTuber Marques Brownlee got his hands on what is claimed to be a sapphire glass panel from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6. While the iPhone 8 is expected to have quite a few new features, not all of them are totally new. As noted by Barron’s, a semiconductor analyst is today out with a note to investors in which he outlines observations and tidbits from a recent trip through Asia. Christopher Rolland of Susquehanna Financial Group met with various suppliers and tech companies in Asia, including Broadcom and Qualcomm, learning a lot about what’s in the pipeline for Apple and its devices… Among other things, one of the most common Apple Watch rumors is the addition of LTE connectivity....

According to one analyst, Apple is facing a significant bottleneck in the production of the bezel-less iPhone 8. As the device’s front is expected to be mostly screen (and almost no bezel), the Touch ID sensor is being re-engineered. Cowen and Company’s Timothy Arcuri is claiming that yields of a new fingerprint sensor that would be integrated into the iPhone 8 screen are low (via AppleInsider) and that Apple may consider other less-exciting designs if the production problems cannot be solved....

Apple’s stock price has seen a sharp drop this morning on the first day of trading since Christmas Day, and a new report on tepid iPhone X demand going into next year is to blame. Analysts are adjusting their forecasts on iPhone X shipments at the start of 2018 based on demand largely being fulfilled during the holiday quarter, and the $999-$1149 price may be the cause.
