A new A Quiet Place Part II trailer and featurette offer the best insight yet into John Krasinski’s post-apocalyptic sequel. The arrival of the hotly anticipated sci-fi horror film is now less than a month away and so far it looks as though audiences are in for a real treat.
Despite only being two years since Krasinski wrote, directed and starred alongside his real-life wife Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place, the former star of The Office has gained an all new sort of celebrity status. Few would have thought that the low budget sci-fi horror thriller about a family’s attempts at survival in a post-apocalyptic world would have garnered the acclaim that it did. However, what instantly set A Quiet Place apart from other post-apocalyptic films was its use of sound as an element of suspense. The film’s blind alien creatures rely on sound to attack - a concept that made silence essential and noise lethal. This in addition to a small but talented cast and limited locations kept everything feeling very grounded and real, despite its far-fetched plot. After raking in over $300 million on a miniscule $17 million budget, A Quiet Place had the world’s attention and clearly, Krasinski wasn’t about to ignore that.
There hasn’t been a huge amount of information in the lead up to the release of A Quiet Place Part II, but that will likely work in its favor rather than to its detriment. However, as the release date gets closer, more glimpses at what will be on offer in the new film are becoming increasingly more common. The latest bits of information to arrive come to us courtesy of Paramount’s official YouTube channel. Both a brand new trailer and a featurette showcase some pretty intense action and horror scenes, highlighting the fact that this time around, the film also involves other survivors of the alien apocalypse. You can check out both videos below:
Perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the new trailer is getting a longer look at a new character played by Cillian Murphy. Given that Krasinski’s character Jim Abbott died at the end of the first film, this time around it’s all up to Evelyn (Emily Blunt) to navigate the deadly world with her three children. It’s clear from the new trailer that Murphy will play a role in helping the Abbotts along their way, and that other survivors will also be featured. The new trailer seems to emphasize the banding together of other survivors against the alien menace that’s terrorizing earth. What’s more, the new film also appears to have plenty of flashbacks to the start of the alien invasion, during which the Abbott family was just one of many struggling to cope with the disintegration of the world around them.
To date, Krasinski has managed to navigate the transition from comedic actor to filmmaker with a degree of skill and care that not every star can pull off. The fact that he has carefully attended to every aspect of A Quiet Place Part II highlights the fact that the series means more to him than simply churning out a profit. It would have been very easy for Krasinski to pass off the franchise to a new producer, writer and director, but instead, he stuck with it. That move alone denotes a care for the project that is all too rare in the era of blockbuster hits. Whether or not A Quiet Place Part II hits the same highs as its predecessor remains to be seen, but if the latest footage is any indication, something special is definitely on its way.
