Fix: Mic Not Working on Acer Nitro 5 / Nitro 7
Solution 1: Check if the Mic Access Is Blocked
It’s a no-brainer that if the Mic access is blocked, you can’t use it with any application. Although Windows does not automatically turn off microphone access, security applications can block it to offer you more privacy.
- In the search box, type Settings and hit the Enter button to open Settings.
- From the left-side menu, tap on Privacy & security.
- Under App permissions, click on Microphone.
- Turn on the toggle next to the Microphone access option, if it isn’t enabled already.
- Now, turn on the toggle next to Let apps access your microphone.
- In the apps list, turn on the toggle for the app you want to use for recording purposes.
- Also, make sure to enable the toggle for Let desktop apps access your microphone. You can locate this option at the bottom.
Solution 2: Enable the Microphone Using Device Manager
Though we have already enabled microphone access from the settings app (in solution 1), it’s better to double-check from the Device Manager.
Here’s how to enable the microphone using Device Manager:
- In the search box, type Device Manager and press Enter.
- Expand the Audio inputs and outputs option.
- Right-click on the microphone option and select Enable device if it is disabled.
- Now, in the search box, type run and press Enter to open Run.
- Type mmsys.cpl and hit the Enter button. A sound settings dialogue box will open
- Go to the Recording tab and right-click on the active microphone and select Enable.
- Close all apps and reboot the device.
After your PC is rebooted successfully, check if the microphone has started working again.
Solution 3: Run the Recording Audio Troubleshooter
If you have ever tried to fix any issue with your Windows computer, you would probably know that every Windows-based computer has an inbuilt troubleshooter. It is good enough to fix basic issues with your PC and probably it might do the trick here also. Let’s jump into the working steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Click Systems from the left side menu and select Troubleshoot.
- Tap on Other troubleshooters.
- Scroll down, locate Recording Audio, and tap on the Run button next to it.
- Windows will start looking for problems with the microphone.
- Follow some basic on-screen instructions to fix the issues. If the troubleshooter couldn’t find any issues, you’ll see a message Troubleshooter couldn’t identify the problem.
Solution 4: Update Audio Drivers
Even after applying the fixes mentioned above the problem is still there, it’s likely there is some issue with the audio drivers. Either you’ll need to uninstall them or update them. In this solution, we’ll be updating drivers, and in the next solution, we’ll uninstall the audio drivers.
- Open Device Manager and expand the Audio inputs and outputs option.
- Right-click on the microphone and select Update driver.
- Click on Search automatically for drivers.
- Windows will start looking for an update to the existing audio driver. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Reboot your PC and check if the problem is solved.
Solution 5: Uninstall the Audio Drivers
Uninstalling the driver does the trick many times. Hopefully, it will work for you in fixing the microphone-related problems. Before you start worrying, let me tell you Windows automatically reinstalls the drivers.
Here’s how to uninstall the audio driver:
- Open Device Manager on your Acer laptop.
- Expand the Audio inputs and outputs option.
- Now, right-click on the microphone driver and select Uninstall device.
- Click Uninstall to confirm the uninstallation.
- Reboot your PC.
If none of the above solutions have worked for you, there might be an issue with the Windows files. You can use Windows installation media to replace all the Windows files with fresh ones. Lastly, you can contact Acer customer support to get the issue fixed.
