[Possible MILD SPOILER for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead.]
–
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has spent three and a half seasons building its own complex corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it first began life as a spinoff of The Avengers. Since that time, the show has continued telling the story of Agent Coulson, introduced exciting new characters to Marvel lore, like Agent Melinda May, and brought characters like Quake, Mockingbird, Deathlok, and Ghost Rider to life. Joining together elements of a story the show has been telling all season involving Inhumans, LMDs, and the Darkhold, this week’s episode of the series may just prove to be its most audacious and popular outing yet.
While wrapping up elements of the LMD story, the show ended on a massive series of cliffhangers that will set up an entirely new storyline when the series returns from hiatus in April. As of the episode’s end, almost every main character is inside the virtual world known as the Framework, where they’re living out slightly altered versions of there lives. Of course, with Hydra in full power, things are more than slightly different. We don’t know exactly where the story is headed, but we’ve got some ideas.
One thing that seems certain is the move will allow the producers and writers to bring back a number of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters from seasons past, including many that have died. According to a new cast listing on IMDb, courtesy of MCU Exchange, it looks as if Agent Antoine Triplett will be among those returning to the show.
Assuming this IMDb information is accurate (itself, a dicey prospect), the inclusion of B.J. Britt’s stunt double in an upcoming episode means that the actor who plays Trip is coming back - and that the character is still alive, within the Framework. It makes sense for the show to use the reset to bring back fan-favorite characters, and Trip has certainly been missed. Before his death during Daisy and Raina’s Inhuman awakening, Trip was the heart and humor of the series. He also had a healthy flirtation with Simmons, something we sadly never got to see borne out. Considering Simmons appears to be dead in the Framework, it doesn’t look as if we’ll get to see it happen now either.
Along with Trip, we know that Brett Dalton will be returning as Grant Ward. In the Framework, he and Daisy are in a committed relationship. With Trip being alive, however, it begs the question as to whether Daisy ever went through Terrigenesis (or even changed her name from Skye). It’s just one of many questions that will hopefully be answered when the show comes back.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 continues April 4 @ 10 p.m. on ABC.
