Phillip Phillips, winner of American Idol, and his wife welcomed their first baby. Their son was born November 10, and the couple kept the news a secret for months before making the birth announcement on social media.
The “Home” singer met his wife when they toured together as teenagers. Throughout his competition on American Idol, Hannah supported her then-boyfriend all the way to his victory in season 11. The whirlwind after appearing on a successful reality series was no match for the couple’s storied romance. They continued to post loving comments to each other on social media. Phillips even beamed over Hannah during an interview with Ryan Seacrest in 2012, telling the DJ, “Love her. Love her to death.” Even after the couple exchanged nuptials in 2015, Phillips continued to flirt with his wife on social media, posting a sentimental third anniversary well-wish in 2018.
“Sunday morning our little boy made a fast entrance into the world. I cried more than he did,” Phillips announced via Instagram November 14. He then added:
Phillips has toured with bands like Matchbox 20 and O.A.R. The singer-songwriter has named Jonny Lang and Dave Matthews among his musical heroes. Those who love his music liken it to the warm vocals that permeated the airwaves in the 1970s. Phillips swept through the American Idol competition with ease, only to drop “Home” as his first post-show single. The song had the highest digital sales week for any Idol winner’s debut release. Still, Phillips’ life isn’t without its hardships. He suffers from kidney issues, and went under the knife for reconstructive renal surgery. Having a child this close to the holidays may provide an added sense of gratitude, not only for his good fortune, but for his ability to overcome the tough times.
