Originally announced during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, DC Animation is currently working on creating and releasing a brand new Batman & Harley Quinn animated film. Following the debut of the first still from the film a few weeks ago, famed Batman voice actor, Kevin Conroy, has officially announced on his Twitter account that he will be reprising his role as the Caped Crusader in the new film. In addition, the actor also confirmed that The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch will be doing the voice of Harley.
The relationship between Batman and Harley Quinn has slowly grown into being one of the most interesting in the entire history of The Dark Knight. Originally introduced in Batman: The Animated Series as The Joker’s psychiatrist turned crazy jester-dressed girlfriend, Batman has come into contact with Harley more than just a few times since, both with The Joker present and when he isn’t. Capable, smart, and a romantic in her own right, Harley was immediately different from all of Batman’s other villains in a couple of interesting ways, which The Dark Knight keenly became aware of over time.
It’s no surprise, then, that Harley and Batman have become a bit of a fan favorite couple and duo for many comic book readers and Dark Knight diehards out there, with some considering their banter and interactions together to be near inimitable. They’ve got a point too, and later this year, those fans will get to see the Batman animated movie that they’ve been waiting so long to see.

Despite still being a relatively new addition to the Batman canon (compared to many of his other, iconic villains), Harley Quinn has emerged as one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the entire roster of Batman supporting characters. Most recently, she was brought to life in live-action form for the first time in last year’s Suicide Squad, where she was played by Margot Robbie, and this year’s LEGO Batman Movie, with Jenny Slate bringing her voice to that brief take on the character.
While Suicide Squad didn’t really touch on the relationship between Batman and Harley either – even despite the two characters sharing a small scene together – it’s wise of DC to finally capitalize completely on their relationship in this way. Not much is known about the Batman & Harley Quinn film as of yet, of course, but with the one still that’s been released and the casting of Conroy and Rauch, it’s clear that the new film will be looking to recapture the 90s TV series versions of both characters as best as it can. That confirmation, in addition to these casting updates, should come as some welcome news to both casual and diehard Batman films, who have been eagerly looking forward to the next batch of DC animated films.
